Purple Disturbance are an Australian four-piece punk, art rock powerhouse, crashing through the noise with gritty riffs and an abundance of raw attitude. Equal parts loose chaos and tight precision, they deliver a ferocious nod to high energy punk, echoing the Ramones, Black Flag, the Stooges and modern fire brands, Amyl and the Sniffers and IDLES. Purple Disturbance are an unstoppable force, where their driving sound is captured with brutal lyrics that unravel social truths and the tragedy of delusion, delivered with a fierce mix of dark humor, dissent, brutal honesty and emotion.

Front man Thomas Downes is a magnetic storm, part Hutchens, part Morrison and Iggy Pop but completely his own entity. He characterizes the subjects of his lyrics while exuding confidence and vulnerability, taking his audiences with him on a deeper journey.

Purple Disturbance live shows are a frenetic, wild, exuberant ride. It’s very good. In a world where AI algorithms dictate our musical flow, Purple Disturbance harks back to a time where audience connection is the focus, it’s about a shared, unforgettable experience between the band and their audience, it’s honest, energetic where connection is key. One great track flows into another, the power is undeniable with Jessica, Josh and Jed providing the perfect soundscape to support Thom in doing what he does best, entertain!

Their debut single, Millie and Gus (2023), backed by an animated video from Ozzie Wrong, dropped like a sonic grenade and scored a spot on the internationally released Rip Curl surf movie “Dunno”. Shortly after the bands second single, Juice Stick (2024) was aired on Triple J Unearthed High airwaves and appeared in the “Dunno” movie.

Out of school, 2025 has seen Purple Disturbance release the songs, Queen Bee and Criticise Penalise, Attack and Slam, the latter track drawing comparisons to early Radio Bird Man. To round out the year, PD will release their new track, Bloody Racket, it’s a big riff, a big chorus and a bigger outro…. A banger!

Purple Disturbance have toured and played alongside Grinspoon, Spiderbait, YOUAMI, The Dune Rats, British India, The Screaming Jets, Private Function, Bad Dreems and Press Club.
